Fuwairit is a few miles beach in the north of Qatar. The place is known for the turtles that put their eggs here (April-July - the beach is closed that time). South end the beach features a sandspit with beautiful clear water. On the other hand there are rocks in the north of the beach (Jebel Fuwairit) popular among some athletes. Katara is the only public beach right in Doha - the capital of Qatar. This is not very beautiful place, but it has sunbeds and different attractions. Admission fee is US$30, and after that it's not allowed to bring your own food and drinks, and women are forbidden to wear bikini. / read more » /

If you have long stopover by Qatar Airways, they will arrange you free hotel:

www.qatarairways.com/.../transit-accommodation.html

In this case, it is usually possible to get visa on arrival, but it costs about 30$ per person.

Also recently it were some changes. Now many nationalities may obtain transit visa for free and without hotel's reservation:
