Pier Beach

Pier Beach is a beach located to the east of Phangan main pier in Thailand. The place is scenic, quiet and secluded. However, the swimming is not very good, since the water is too shallow. It is still possible to swim. But most people prefer to make daily visits of more comfortable beaches. So it makes sense to take a hotel with a swimming pool. Anyway these are very cheap here. In the hotels of Pier Beach, rooms' fares range from US$20 to US$60 per night. This is a great destination with cheap beachfront properties. Rooms are basic, but value for money is Ok.

How to get there [edit]

You may get from Bangkok to Phangan island by Lomprayah high-speed catamaran. But the best is to fly to Samui island, and next get by ferry from Maenam beach to Phangan island.

There are two options to fly from Bangkok to Samui:

1. Direct flight to Samui Airport (USM). This way is most convenient, but also the most expensive.

2. Fly to Surat Thani airport (URT) by AirAsia low-coster. Then get by taxi (1200 bahts) to Donsak Pier. Then get to Samui by any ferry (Raja ferry is the best, but other services are also good). It is the best value for money way of getting to Koh Samui, but takes a little longer time, as the road from Suratthani airport to Samui takes a few hours.

The best time for a beach holiday in Pha-ngan island is a dry season from January to April, as well as second dry season from June to September.
