As for me Adam's Peak is superb! And it's only 3 hours to climb up. You'll get view + atmosphere of temple and holly.

But it's very hard to walk up there. If you are not in good condition, don't hurry!

We've been at Elephant Park Hotel in Pinnewela. It is centered located, and you don't pay any fees when visiting elephants.
